Electric Call Bells and Indoor Buzzers are now regulated under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, as notified by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025, under the BIS Act, 2016. This QCO replaces the previous S.O. 4098(E) from 2024.

Electric bells and buzzers are widely used in residential and institutional buildings for signalling purposes. Since they are powered by electricity and often operate unattended, ensuring safety in design and installation is essential to prevent shock, fire, or malfunction risks.

The objective is to mandate compliance with IS 302 (Part 1):2024, which ensures mechanical, thermal, and electrical safety in signalling devices used indoors. The standard applies to products operating at low voltage with electronic or electromechanical circuits.
