Commercial Electric Cooking Ranges, Ovens, Hobs and Hob Elements are regulated under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs via S.O. 2232(E) on 19 May 2025, under the BIS Act, 2016. This order supersedes the earlier QCO from S.O. 4098(E) dated 17 September 2024.
Overview
These cooking appliances are designed for high-use commercial environments like hotels, restaurants, canteens, and food service operations. Due to their continuous use, high energy consumption, and exposure to heat and grease, they pose electrical and fire hazards if not manufactured to safe standards.
Objective & Scope
The objective is to ensure that commercial cooking appliances meet the safety benchmarks laid out in IS 302 (Part 1):2024, including checks for electric shock protection, insulation resistance, overheating, moisture ingress, and mechanical stability.
