Visual Display Units (VDUs) and Video Monitors with screen size 32 inches and above are regulated under the Electronics and IT Goods CRS Orders, initially introduced in 2012/2013 and updated via the CRS 2021 Order (S.O. 1248(E), dated 18 March 2021) under the BIS Act, 2016. The CRS 2021 provisions became enforceable from 18 September 2021.

The CRS mandates compulsory BIS certification to ensure the safety of large-size display devices. Compliance with IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 prevents electrical and fire-related hazards in high-power display equipment widely used in homes, offices, and commercial spaces.

The standard ensures electrical and mechanical safety of IT-based video monitors and display equipment. It covers protective measures against fire, overheating, and electric shock in large-screen units.

The scope applies to Visual Display Units and Video Monitors with a screen size of 32″ and above, including standalone monitors and IT-linked display devices.
