Notification

Electric Ice-Cream Machines, including those intended for use within refrigerators or freezers, are now covered under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025, under the BIS Act, 2016. This notification supersedes the previous QCO issued under S.O. 4098(E) in 2024.

Overview

These machines are used to produce frozen desserts at home or in semi-commercial environments. Due to their direct electrical operation, motorized components, and integration with cooling systems, safety regulation is necessary to prevent electric shocks, overheating, and equipment failure.

Objective & Scope

The key objective is to mandate BIS certification to ensure safety and reliability in electric ice-cream makers. This includes insulation integrity, protection against water ingress, mechanical durability, and temperature-safe operation as per IS 302 (Part 1):2024.
