The product Fibre Ropes – Polypropylene (IS 5175:2022) is covered under the Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Order, 2024, notified via S.O. 4327(E) dated 3rd October 2024 by the Ministry of Textiles under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Enforcement Timeline

  • General enforcement begins from 1st April 2025.
  • For Micro & Small Enterprises (domestic production only), enforcement starts from 1st July 2025.

Overview

The Order makes it mandatory that all polypropylene fibre ropes, including split film, monofilament and multifilament (PP2), as well as high-tenacity multifilament (PP3) ropes of 3-, 4-, 8-, and 12-strand constructions, must conform to IS 5175:2022 and bear the ISI mark under a BIS licence.
