 Visual Display Units and Video Monitors of screen size up to 32” were notified under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012 via S.O. 2742(E), dated 17th August 2017. Enforcement became effective six months later, from 17th February 2018. The product has since been re-notified under the Electronics and IT Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 (S.O. 1248(E), dated 18th March 2021) with effect from 18th September 2021, with further amendments issued in March and July 2021.

 VDUs and Video Monitors up to 32” are widely used IT and multimedia devices. IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 ensures electrical safety, mechanical strength, fire hazard resistance, and protection against electric shock for monitors.

 The regulation aims to eliminate unsafe and sub-standard display devices, mandate BIS certification, and ensure that every monitor in the Indian market operates safely and reliably.
