Tumbler Dryers have been included under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This QCO supersedes the earlier 2024 notification (S.O. 4098(E)) and mandates BIS certification under the BIS Act, 2016.

Overview

Tumbler dryers are electric appliances designed to remove moisture from clothes using heated airflow and tumbling motion. They are used in residential, institutional, and commercial laundries. This regulation mandates that all such devices comply with stringent electrical safety and performance criteria.

Objective & Scope

The key objective is to ensure that all tumbler dryers in India meet safety standards for electrical insulation, heating elements, temperature controls, and moisture resistance. IS 302 (Part 1):2024 provides a framework to minimize risks like overheating, electrical shocks, and fire hazards during operation.
