This order supersedes the earlier QCO from 2024 (S.O. 4098(E)), and mandates that such products must be BIS certified and ISI-marked before sale.

Electric water boilers are widely used in homes, restaurants, and institutions for quickly heating or boiling water. These appliances pose risks like scalding, electrical short circuits, and fire hazards if not properly tested and certified. The QCO aims to ensure product safety, reliability, and user confidence.
Objective & Scope
The purpose of this regulation is to ensure all electric water boilers meet uniform safety standards under IS 302 (Part 1):2024, including electrical insulation, overheating protection, moisture resistance, and structural durability. It applies to both residential and light commercial units.

Mandatory Compliance Requirements
All electric water boilers must:
