Electric Potato Peelers are now included in the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025 by the Department of Consumer Affairs under the BIS Act, 2016. This QCO supersedes the earlier S.O. 4098(E) issued in 2024.
Overview
These machines use electric motors and rotating abrasive elements or blades to peel potatoes and other vegetables efficiently. Owing to potential risks of electric shock and mechanical injury, they are now subject to mandatory safety certification.
