Electric Coffee Mills with hopper capacity up to 500g are now covered under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025 by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs under the BIS Act, 2016. This replaces the earlier QCO notified through S.O. 4098(E) dated 17 Sept 2024.
Overview
These mills are compact, high-speed electric grinders designed to process roasted coffee beans in homes, cafes, and restaurants. Due to their motorized operation and high-speed blades, safety assurance through standardization is critical.
Objective & Scope
The primary goal is to ensure electric coffee mills comply with IS 302 (Part 1):2024, which includes requirements for electrical insulation, blade protection, resistance to moisture, overload prevention, and safe operation.
