Electric Churns have been brought under mandatory BIS certification by the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025 under the BIS Act, 2016. This order replaces the earlier 2024 notification S.O. 4098(E).
Overview
Electric churns are motorized devices used for preparing butter, lassi, or mixing curd. Given their direct contact with liquids and rotating parts, standardized electrical and structural safety is critical. This QCO mandates compliance with safety parameters to prevent user hazards and ensure consistent performance.
Objective & Scope
The objective is to regulate the safety of electric churns by mandating compliance with IS 302 (Part 1):2024, which addresses protection against electric shock, moisture ingress, stability, motor insulation, and mechanical durability.
