Dishwashers have been brought under regulatory scope through the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025, under the BIS Act, 2016. The 2025 order replaces the earlier QCO 2024 notified via S.O. 4098(E).

Dishwashers are essential kitchen appliances in modern homes, restaurants, and commercial kitchens. As they involve heating elements, motors, water circulation, and electrical wiring, regulatory oversight ensures user safety and consistent product quality.
Objective & Scope
The key goal is to ensure all dishwashers meet the safety benchmarks of IS 302 (Part 1):2024, including electrical protection, thermal control, mechanical stability, water ingress safety, and surface temperature regulation.

- Fines and/or imprisonment up to 2 years, or both
