Commercial Electric Griddles and Griddle Grills are now regulated under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, notified via S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025 by the Department of Consumer Affairs under the BIS Act, 2016. The order replaces the earlier QCO issued under S.O. 4098(E) dated 17 September 2024.
Overview
These appliances are widely used in hotels, restaurants, and catering businesses to prepare a variety of grilled and flat-top cooked foods. Due to their frequent exposure to grease, heat, and continuous electrical operation, they must meet defined safety and durability standards.
Objective & Scope
The QCO mandates compliance with IS 302 (Part 1):2024, which includes critical safety checks such as overcurrent protection, moisture resistance, thermal performance, insulation, and structural integrity of the appliance.
