The product Beds is covered under the Furniture (Quality Control) Order, 2025, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry via S.O. 801(E) dated 13 February 2025. The relevant Indian Standard is IS 17635:2022. Mandatory certification applies from 13 February 2026 for all manufacturers, with a six-month extension—until 13 August 2026—for eligible Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) as defined under the MSME Act.

This standard applies to various types of beds intended for indoor use, including:

  • Single beds,
  • Double beds,
  • Wooden and metal bed frames,
  • Hospital cots and beds used in hostels, hotels, and households.

Exemptions Provided

Exemptions under the QCO include:

  • Beds manufactured solely for export.
  • Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) registered on the Udyam Portal are exempt from certification until 13 August 2026, if they meet the following:
    1. Investment in plant and machinery ≤ ₹25 lakh
    2. Turnover ≤ ₹2 crore in the previous financial year, certified by a Chartered Accountant.
